Export processes to Excel to generate structured tabular data about valve states, equipment modules, and conditions across all steps. Unlike PDF export which renders visual P&ID diagrams, Excel export produces data tables suitable for validation, review, and collaboration.
Access the Excel export from the Export panel in the Module Ribbon.
π Export Types at a Glance
AseptSoft offers four distinct Excel export types, each serving a different purpose:
|
Export Type |
Purpose |
Reimportable |
Speed |
|---|---|---|---|
|
Template-based customizable overview of your P&IDs |
β No |
β |
|
|
Valve status matrix with component states per step |
β Yes |
β‘ Fast |
|
|
Condition sequences with extracted references |
β Yes |
β‘ Fast |
|
|
Validation status from review sessions |
β No |
β‘ Fast |
π‘ The Standard export is the most customizable β you design the layout using templates. The Tabular, Algorithm, and Validations exports are faster and use a standardized tabular format. The Tabular and Algorithm exports can be reimported back into AseptSoft to update your P&IDs.
π Two-Way Workflow (Reimportable Exports)
The Tabular and Algorithm exports support a powerful two-way workflow:
-
Export your processes to Excel
-
Edit the Excel file β modify valve states, add or change conditions, or hand it to a colleague for review
-
Reimport the modified Excel file back into AseptSoft
-
A preview window shows all proposed changes before they are applied
-
Select which changes to accept β you can approve some changes and reject others
This lets you work on your P&IDs in AutoCAD and in Excel simultaneously, keeping design and documentation perfectly in sync.
Use Cases
-
Generate structured data for SCADA system validation
-
Share with colleagues or clients for remote review from any device β no AutoCAD needed
-
Support validation change requests during the qualification period
-
Create formatted reports using Excel templates with custom layouts
-
Round-trip editing β export, modify in Excel, and reimport changes back into your P&IDs
Export Configuration
Process & PID Selection
-

-

-
Include Steps Without Conditions β whether to include step pages that have no conditions (Algorithm export)
Data Highlighting
Control how specific data is visually highlighted in the exported Excel file:
|
Option |
Effect |
|---|---|
|
None |
No highlighting applied |
|
Open Valves |
Highlights cells where valves are in an open or pulsating state |
|
Status Change |
Highlights cells where a valve's state changes from the previous step |
|
Active State |
Highlights cells using the component's actual color from the P&ID |
Additional highlighting options:
-
Erase Previous Highlight β clears highlighting from prior exports before applying new
-
Colour Algorithm Tokens β applies color coding to algorithm/condition tokens
-
Custom Highlight Colors β configurable colors for status change and active state highlighting
Equipment Options

|
Include Control Modules in Equipment |
Include control modules within equipment module worksheets |
|
Include Orphan Control Modules |
Include control modules not assigned to any equipment module |
|
Excluded Valve Types |

Fluid Flow Response Symbols
Customize how fluid flow responses are displayed in the export:
|

π¨ Layout Persistence
For all Excel export types, AseptSoft preserves your custom formatting across exports:
-
First export β creates the file with a default table layout
-
Customize β open the file in Excel, adjust formatting, colors, column widths, add charts, notes, etc.
-
Re-export β AseptSoft updates only the data; your formatting remains intact
β οΈ Important: Do not place text directly above or next to the data tables. This can prevent AseptSoft from recognizing the table boundaries on subsequent exports.
π‘ Tip: Export just one process first, customize the layout to your liking, and save. When you export all processes next time, every worksheet will use the same layout.
Excel Templates
For advanced formatting control with the Standard export, you can create Excel Templates that define the layout, token placeholders, and styling of the exported file.
Creating a New Template
The template creation window lets you:
-
Name the template
-
Optionally base it on an existing template file
-
Select which PIDs to include
-
Choose token categories to include:
|
Token Category |
Content |
|---|---|
|
Valves |
Valve names, states, and positions |
|
Titles |
Step and process titles |
|
Notes |
|
|
Attributes |
|
|
Algorithm |
Conditions panel data |
|
Aggregations |
Computed summaries and counts |
Templates are stored in the standard Excel templates path within the File System.
Cumulative Export
Excel process exports are cumulative β re-exporting to an existing file updates the data while preserving your formatting and additional content. This is powered by the Excel Tabular Export engine.
