By default, the 🏠 Home Ribbon appears automatically when opening any compatible DWG file. However, you may not always need AseptSoft functionality — for example, when working on drawings that don't contain P&IDs. The Activation Settings allow you to control when AseptSoft activates.
Access Activation Settings from the 🔌 AddIn Ribbon Activation panel.
🔄 Auto-Activation Settings
The Auto-Activation Settings window provides a hierarchical override system:
🌍 Global Settings
|
Setting |
Description |
|---|---|
|
Activate for new drawings |
Automatically activate the AseptSoft ribbon when opening drawings never used with AseptSoft before |
|
Activate for known drawings |
Automatically activate the AseptSoft ribbon when opening drawings previously used with AseptSoft |
📁 Project-Level Override
|
Setting |
Description |
|---|---|
|
Project override |
Override the global settings for the currently open project. When set, this takes precedence over global settings for all drawings in the project |
📄 Drawing-Level Override
|
Setting |
Description |
|---|---|
|
Per-drawing override |
Override both global and project settings for individual drawings. Each drawing in the project can have its own activation preference |
🏗️ Override Hierarchy
The system evaluates activation in this order (highest priority first):
|
Priority |
Level |
Description |
|---|---|---|
|
🥇 Highest |
Drawing-level override |
If set, this controls activation for this specific drawing |
|
🥈 Medium |
Project-level override |
If set, this controls activation for all drawings in the project |
|
🥉 Default |
Global settings |
Applied when no overrides are configured |
🏭 Pharma Example: Your facility has a global setting to auto-activate AseptSoft for all drawings. But the mechanical utilities project (HVAC ductwork) doesn't need process automation — so you set a project-level override to disable activation for that project. Within that project, one drawing does contain a CIP skid P&ID, so you set a drawing-level override to re-enable AseptSoft just for that drawing.
🖱️ Manual Activation
If AseptSoft is disabled for the current drawing because of Auto-Activation Settings, you can manually activate it for the current session:
-
Go to the 🔌 AddIn Ribbon
-
Click Activate AseptSoft PID Ribbon for the current drawing
This activates AseptSoft for the current session only. It does not change the Auto-Activation Settings — the next time you open the drawing, it will follow the configured rules again.
💡 Tip: Manual activation is perfect for one-off checks — for example, quickly opening a colleague's mechanical drawing to verify a valve tag without permanently enabling AseptSoft for that file.
🏷️ Classification Environment
The Activation Settings also relate to the Classification Environment configured in the 🏠 Home Ribbon. The classification environment determines how AutoCAD blocks are mapped to AseptSoft PID component types (Engineering Items, Instruments, Sources, Off-Page Connectors).
When AseptSoft activates for a drawing, it uses the selected classification environment to:
-
🔍 Scan the drawing for recognized block types
-
🏷️ Classify blocks into component categories (Valve, Instrument, Source, Off-Page Connector, Block Valve)
-
🔗 Build tags and attributes using token patterns defined in the classification
-
📦 Populate the module's PID component collections
